April 7, 11:00am - 1:30pm - Library Mall (Coliseum if rain)
University Day, first held May 10, 1961, marks the day North Texas State College became North Texas State University, and is an annual event where we celebrate our university status with free food, activities, and music.
Over 55 campus departments and student organizations and 20 local vendors will be on hand to distribute information and giveaways. A picnic lunch will be served and is free with current UNT Faculty, Staff or Student ID card.
For the fifth year, the annual Flag Parade will precede University Day. The parade starts at 11AM at Marquis Hall and ends on the Library Mall. The official University Day ceremony will start at 11:30AM, which includes a welcome by President Smatresk; a historical proclamation by the Mayor of Denton, pronouncing the college a university; and music by the pep band.
After the ceremony, attendees will be able to enjoy live music by Cover Down, a 7-piece party band that plays a variety of dance tunes, including rock, country, jazz standards, old school and top 40.
In the event of rain, University Day will be held in the Coliseum.
Attend most of your classes or work at Discovery Park? Discovery Park will celebrate University Day on Thursday, April 6, from 11am-1pm in the DP Hallway. Free BBQ meal with current UNT Faculty, Staff, or Student ID card.
